Psudeopregnancy (False Pregnancy)

A bitch can develop this condition shortly after her season. This is not a serious illness and indeed in the wild pack of dogs can be useful if the aunts of puppies can also supply milk to the puppies of other members of the pack. In the home situation it occurs at around 9 weeks after the season and can result in behavioural changes as well as milk production. This can be annoying fro the owners and may lead to lumps in the mammary or breast tissue. Long term spaying the bitch may be best otherwise we recommend homeopathy. You can use a remedy, if you have found which one works for your dog, as a preventative 2 weeks before the expected event. Remedies claimed to be useful include:

Single Remedies

Asa foetida Picture: Restless, whiny, follows owner around, nesting often with a soft toy. She can be attractive to and attracted by male dogs even when not in season and have short periods between each season. Give a 6x tablet 3 times daily for 7-14 days

Ignatia: Picture: Irritable grumpy at this time although not usually, prefers to sit alone and may over groom her skin. Little milk is produced if any. Long interval between seasons. Give a 6x tablet 3 times daily for 2-4 weeks.

Phytolacca: Picture is of lumpy inflamed mammary glands after or during milk production. can be better combined with Merc. viv. Give both together as a 4x potency 3 times daily for 1-3 weeks

Pulsatilla Picture: Similar to the general Pulsatilla type.. Loves company, comfort and affection. During the Phantom pregnancy she appears depressed and sleeps until encouraged to go out when she feels better for the open air and perks up.
She does not drink much, has slightly prolonged inter season intervals, is not keen on being mated and is prone to pussy vaginal discharges. If you think this fits give a 12c or 30x table daily for 3 weeks or until she is better

Salvia officinalis and Urtica combine well together to inhibit milk production and help the milk to dry up. They can be combined together with the remedy above which fits best the behavioural changes described above. This is why the complex Remedy from MacSamuel is so affective. Use potency 2x Salvia and 6x Urtica 3 times daily.
